Wok the walk: Transforming cities through food
After a full day at the conference, we held a walking tour exploring the people, places, and products that transform San Francisco daily.
We visited the markets, restaurants, lunch counters, food truck parks, and everything in between that have made San Francisco the celebrated -- and controversial -- food city we know today. Through bites and talks by local experts, we tasted and travelled through questions and themes such as:
How local is too local?
When does revitalization become gentrification?
From una jarra de agua fresca to James Beard -- San Francisco’s tumultuous history with ethnic foods
Spaces vs. stasis - the ups and downs of a brick and mortar
